Text-Only Contributions

You can contribute a text message to the others.

1.       Type your message in the the textfield at the bottom right.

2.       Text is automatically wrapped in the textfield. If you want a forced line feed use Ctrl-Return.

3.       To submit the message, click on the envelope icon at the right of the text field or press Return.

Refering to Other Messages

If your contribution refers to another message, e.g. you answer a question that has been raised in a previous message, you can set a reference marker. A reference is visualized as a line with an arrowhead pointing to the message you refer to.

1.       Double-click (left mouse button) on the message, you want to refer to. (Now you should see a blue line with an arrow pointing from the text field to the message you selected.)

2.       Enter your message in the text field.

3.       Submit the message by clicking the envelope icon or pressing Return.

You can also use your keyboard to refer to messages.

1.       Press Crtl-Space. (Now you see a popup containing all messages, newest contributions first.)

2.       Select the message you want to refer to and press Return. (Now you see a blue line with an arrow pointing from the text field to the message you selected.)

3.       Enter your message in the text field.

4.       Submit the message by pressing Return.

Note: If you refer to a message, that in turn has references itself, these will be visible, too.

To be precise, you can set the reference before, while or after you wrote your message in the textfield, but you have to do this before submission.

In the list of messages you can see whether a message has a reference. Messeages with references start with a small arrow symbol. To see what a message refers to, click on the message.

By default, the newest message is selected and its references are visible.

Refering to Parts of Another Message

Instead of refering to a whole message, you may also refer to just a part of a message, e.g. one word or a phrase.

1.       Select the part you want to refer to. (Now you see a blue line with an arrow pointing from the text field to the part of the message you selected.)

2.       Enter your message in the text field.

3.       Submit by clicking on the envelope icon or pressing Return.

Refering to the shared whiteboard

You can set a reference to the shared whiteboard (in the left part of the application window).

1.       Click on the Reference Button in the whiteboard menue

2.       Mark a rectangle with the mouse. (Now you see a blue line with an arrow pointing from the text field to the selection in the material.)

3.       Enter your message in the text field.

4.       Submit the message by clicking the envelope icon or pressing Return.

Removing the Reference

You can remove the reference you set.

1.       Press Esc. (Note that the focus needs to be in the textfield.)

or

2.       Set a new reference.

Note: You can only remove references for your current message, not for previous messages.

Multiple References

It is possible to add more than one reference to your contribution. For example, you can refer to a question in a previous message and point to the whiteboard or you can point to a couple of messages to sum up these messages.

1.       Press and hold Ctrl.

2.       Set all references (to messages and/or the whiteboard).

3.       Release Ctrl.

4.       Enter your message in the text field.

5.       Submit the message by clicking the envelope icon or pressing Return.

Adding a Screenshot to the Shared Whiteboard

You can add a screenshot to the shared whiteboard.

1.       Adjust the windows, so both the icon with the camera (on top of the material window) and the application you want to take a screenshot of are visible on the screen.

2.       Click on the icon with the camera.

3.       Select the part of the screen you want to add to the whiteboard.

Reading old Contributions

This this is a persistant chatroom, you can read messages that were contributed while you were offline.

Click on the icon with the two arrows (above the messages) to read previous contributions. The number behind “Chat:” (above the messages) tells you how many previous contributions exist.

Treeview vs. Listview

By default you see the messages in the order they were contributed. This is also called a "listview". You can also view the messages separated into threads ("treeview").

1.       Click on the icon with four horizontal lines (above the messages) to switch to the treeview.

2.       Make contributions of the thread visible by clicking on the plus-sign. To hide a thread, click on the minus-sign.

To switch back to the listview, click on the icon with the clock.
