Carsten Magerkurth

In April 2007 Carsten left Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and joined SAP Research CEC St. Gallen, Switzerland, as a Senior Researcher.

Carsten Magerkurth is head of the research division "AMBIENTE – Smart Environments of the Future" at the Fraunhofer institute IPSI in Darmstadt, Germany. He obtained a Dipl.-Psych. in psychology in 2001 from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany, with an additional degree in computer science.

He has authored or co-authored more than 30 scientific papers in the fields of Ubiquitous Computing, Human Computer Interaction, and Ambient Intelligence in the relevant journals and conferences. For a list of publications see here. He also teaches at the Technical University of Darmstadt about his fields of interest.

He has won the Best Paper Award (1st place) at MC2003 for his paper on "Computer Supported Cooperative Gaming" (Magerkurth & Stenzel 2003)

and the Best Paper Award (1st place) at ACM ACE 2004 for his paper on "Augmenting the Virtual Domain with Physical and Social Elements" (Magerkurth, Engelke, Memisoglu 2004).

He is a frequent reviewer for international conferences and journals. In 2006, he serves in the program committees of the IEEE ISM, Game-On, ICEC, and ACM ACE conferences and is co-editor of special issues in the i-Com and Interacting with Computers journals.
