Projects
i-LAND is an example application of the concept of Cooperative Buildings as part of our vision of the Workspaces of the future. They are based on an integrated design of real spaces and virtual spaces allowing for dynamic configuration and flexible allocation of resources for project teams (e.g. on demand and ad hoc teams).

i-LAND integrates several so-called roomware® components into a combination of real, physical as well as virtual, digital work environments for creative teams. By roomware®, we mean computer-augmented objects in rooms, like furniture, doors, walls and others.

The current realization of i-LAND covers: New versions of these roomware-components have been realized in the "Future Office Dynamics" (FOD) consortium.

i-LAND serves as a testbed for exploring new ideas on how to support a wide range of different teamwork situations and creativity techniques.

While the initial focus is on supporting team work in local settings, we are also addressing the cooperation of global teams distributed in different locations. In this case, the DynaWall® serves as a life-size video-conferencing display in combination with two large workspaces for sharing the content material between the local and the remote meeting sites.

The design is based on an extensive requirements analysis and interview studies with creative teams in industry and large organizations. The development activities are complemented by evaluation studies to obtain early feedback from users to be used in the redesign process.
