Cooperative
Buildings

Due to the new role office
buildings will have in the future, one has to reflect this in the
overall design of the workspaces of the future. In order to emphasize
that the starting point of design should be the architectural environment
- even a person navigating in the chat rooms of cyberspace is sitting
somewhere in the real space - we use the term "building" and not "spaces".
By further calling it a "cooperative building" we want to indicate
that the building serves the purpose of cooperation and communication.
At the same time, it is also "cooperative" towards its users or rather
inhabitants and visitors by employing active, attentive and adaptive
components ( a3-Rooms). This is to say
that the building does not only provide facilities but it can also
(re)act "on its own" after having identified certain conditions. It
is part of our vision that it will diagnose problems, provide information,
establish connections between people, and offer "help". It will adapt
to changing situations and provide context-sensitive information according
to knowledge about past and current states or actions and, if available,
even about plans of the people.
